16TH SEPTEMBER 2017 MONSOON UPDATES AND WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT

Note on Monsoon watch

Pacific typhoon DOKSURI crossed Vietnam. This system will send a pulse to Bay of Bengal and a low pressure area likely to form in Bay of Bengal around 22nd of September. This will again revive the monsoon in the country. As per the GFS model the system will move North Westerly and reach up to Punjab. IMD will have to face in deciding for withdrawal of monsoon. Normal date has already passed. At this time withdrawal starts from West Rajasthan.

 

Realised Weather over Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat State and Synoptic situation. (10th Septemberto 16thSeptember)

During the last week axis of monsoon trough was close to foothills of Himalayas on 10th September. From 11th to 16th though it shifted little south ward that is up to Jammu or Amritsar but position was north of normal position.

 

Low Pressure Systems:

Another important system was a cyclonic circulation over Kerala and trough from this system to Madhya Maharashtra across interior Karnataka. This system gave good rainfall over Maharashtra and Interior Karnataka. Two North – South trough were seen. One from Sub Himalayan West Bengal to East Jharkhand and another from East Bihar to North Odisha and third from Marathwada to South Kerala. But these troughs were not persisted for more than three days.

 

Rainfall Activity in September

Most of the rainfall received over Maharashtra and Peninsular India was due convective activity resulting in widespread thundercloud development and heavy rainfall. Many places reported lightning and thunder.

Sub Divisions:

North Konkan – Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Mumbai

South Konkan – Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg

North Madhya Maharashtra – Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, Dhule, Nandurbar

Marathwada – Aurangabad, Parbhani, Nanded, Beed, Jalna, Latur, Osmanabad and Hingoli

West Vidarbha (Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Yavatmal)

East Vidarbha – Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha

In simple word monsoon was active full week over Maharashtra. Only Gujarat received rainfall at isolated places and Saurashtra and Kutch was dry or very light rain at isolated places.

Mainly rainfall occurred due to cyclonic circulation over the area these cyclonic circulations moved in to Maharashtra from Bay of Bengal crossing Telangana and Marathwada.

 

Forecast for the week 17th September to 23rdSeptember

Rainfall would occur due to cyclonic circulation and small trough. At some places rainfall will be accompanied with thunder storm.

North Konkan: Moderate to rather heavy rainfall likely to occur at many places on 17  18  19 September and light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at few places on 20  21  22 September and moderate rainfall likely to occur at few places on 23rd September.

South Konkan: Moderate to rather heavy rainfall likely to occur at few places on 17th, Heavy to very heavy rain on 18th, 19th September and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places on 20th, 21th,  22nd  and 23rd  September.

North Madhya Maharashtra: These districts will observe moderate to rather heavy rainfall on 17  18  19  20  21  22 and moderate rainfall on 23.

South Madhya Maharashtra: Moderate rainfall on 17  18  19 at few places.  Moderate to rather heavy rainfall on 20 at many places. Moderate rainfall on 21  22 at few places. Light to moderate rainfall at isolated places on 23rd September.

Marathwada: Moderate rainfall wilccur at few places on 17 . Moderate to rather heavy rainfall will occur at many places on 18. Moderate rainfall at few places on 19. Moderate to rather heavy rainfall likely to occur at many places on 20  21. Moderate rainfall likely to occur at few places on 22. Light to moderate rainfall will occur at isolated places on 23rd September.

West Vidarbha: Moderate rainfall will occur at many places on 17 and at few places on 18  19  20 again at many places on 21. Light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at isolated places. Thunder storm likely to occur at isolated places on 22nd September.

East Vidarbha: Moderate rainfall will occur at few places on 17 and at many places on 18   19   20. Moderate rainfall likely to occur at few places on 21st September. Light to moderate rainfall likely to occur at isolated places on 22 and 23rd September. Thunder storm likely to occur at isolated places on 22nd September.

North Gujarat region: Light rainfall will occur at isolated places on 17   18   19. Dry weather will prevail on 20   21   22. Thunder storm likely to occur at isolated places on 23rd September.

South Gujarat region: Moderate to rather heavy rainfall likely to occur at many places on 17   18. Light rainfall likely to occur at isolated places on 19   20   21   22   23rd September.

Saurashtra: Moderate to rather heavy rainfall on 17. Light rainfall at isolated places on 18   19   20   21   22   23rd September.

Kutch: Light rainfall at isolated places on 17. Dry weather will prevail thereafter.

 

Forecast for Thunder Storm :-

17th Evening :- Junagarh (Surashtra) , Mumbai, Dhule.

18th Evening:- Boisar, Palgarh, Balsad, Mumbai, Malegaon.

19th Evening :- Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Jalna.

20th Evening :- Pune, Raigad, Baramati, Aurangabad, Ahednagar.

21st :- Evening:- Jalgaon, Buldhana, Beed.
