Cyclonic Circulation Over Gujarat Region & It’s Important Role in Monsoon Advance

What caused the formation of cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and adjoining region?

A cyclonic circulation is anticlockwise circular movement of winds. In a trough (a belt of low pressure) the winds are curved in anticlockwise direction. When the trough becomes strong, the wind speed too increases. This facilitate more curving of the winds in circular motion at the northern tip of the trough. The other factors which contribute for formation of circulation is orograhphy and wind shear (abrupt change of wind direction)

The offshore trough along south Gujarat till Kerala coast existed since 26th June.

The above mention conditions caused the formation of cyclonic circulation and later on 28th it became low pressure area. (Note: Cyclonic circulation further intensifies to form Low).

Till 30th June the low was on Kutch. On 01st this low has become less marked and associated cyclonic circulation is still persisting. This cyclonic circulation again developed in low pressure area and moved round the Saurashtra coast and rest over Kutch given very good rain to Kutch and north Gujarat region. Siddhpur in Patan district recorded upto 33 cm and other places recorded 7 to 22 cms of rainfall.

This low is expected to move further in South Rajasthan region giving good rain in those area.
