Heavy Rain on West Coast on 3rd August 2019

On 3rd August 2019, Alibag – 410 mm, Thane 372 mm, Kalyan 307 mm, Mumbai 204mm and upto Vallsad along coast faced extremely heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Whenever there is cyclonic circulation over East Central Arabian sea earlier and a low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal, the western coast of north Konkan and south Gujarat is at high risk of extremely heavy rainfall. Past observations also showed that the low pressure area of Northwest Bay of Bengal increases the wind speed of west coast and cyclonic circulation move towards coast. Situation becomes worst is the cyclonic circulation is half in the sea and half over the land. Because land covered by this cyclonic circulation will face heavy to very heavy rainfall may be extremely heavy rainfall
