Realised Weather and Forecast for Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat State. (22nd October to 28th October)

North East Monsoon watch

Last week was the season of withdrawal of Southwest monsoon. After completing four months of journey, south westerly wind started turning into Northeasterly winds. For coming two months monsoon is set over south India and are called north east monsoon. Maximum area of peninsular India gets the rainfall in this monsoonal wind period. North East monsoon is beneficial season for crop in southern India.

On 25th October in view of the setting in of north easterly to easterly wind in the lower atmosphere south west monsoon withdrawn from entire country.

Northeast Monsoon 2017

North East monsoon set in over the country on Friday 27th October 2017 since the North East wind is completely established over Bay of Bengal. As shown in the picture above presence of anti cyclonic (clockwise) circulation over North West Bay of Bengal and presence of cyclonic (anti clockwise) circulation over south east Tamilnadu is a sign of Northeast monsoon to hit eastern coast.

The Thai Met Department said on 27th morning that the North-East monsoon is set to intensify over the lower South China Sea and adjoining Gulf of Thailand over the next few days. North East monsoon is important for the crop in south peninsular India. Circulation in lower south China sea is expected to move in south east Bay of Bengal. This may give heavy rain to North Tamilnadu, Puduchery and adjoining Andhra Pradesh.

On the below links of simulation weather model you will differentiate the flow of southwesterly winds during Southwest monsoon and northeasterly winds during Northeast monsoon:

Delayed Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon

This year monsoon withdrawal is delayed by ten days. Over west Rajasthan instead of withdrawing on 01st September it withdrawn on 27th September. The reason behind this was activeness of Bay of Bengal. The last system of Bay of Bengal on 21ST converted in to depression. However it did not travel across the country. It moved to Bangladesh giving rain to Odisha, West Bengal.
