Monsoon Update & Week Weather Report Ending 15th July 2017

Realised Weather over Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat State. (09th July  to 15th July )

Weather Summary:

As anticipated, there was no significant monsoon activity over Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa till 12th July.

On 13th July, the low pressure area over Central MP became well marked low and started moving westwards. This situation revived monsoon activity over Gujarat, Northern parts of Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra.

As per the movement of the low pressure area, Vidarbha, North Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa received good amount of rainfall. Gujarat got very good amount of rainfall which reached upto 45 cms at Chotila in districts of Surendranagar. The intense rainfall over Gujarat was due to well marked low pressure over South Rajasthan.

Below rainfall recorded for past 24 hours at 0830 hours above 10 cms on 15th July at various places in the districts of Gujarat:

Chotila (dist Surendranagar) 45, Rajkot (dist Rajkot) 35, Tankara (dist Morbi) 34, Kaprada (dist Valsad) 26, Muli (dist Surendranagar) 16, Kapadvanj (dist Kheda) 14, Poshina (dist Sabarkantha) 14, Surendranagar (dist Surendranagar) 14, Nanipalson (dist Valsad) 13, Kalol(g) (dist Gandhinagar) 13, Madhbun (dist Dadara & Nagar Haveli) 13, Danta (dist Banaskantha) 13, Deesa (dist Banaskantha) 11, Balasinor (dist Mahisagar) 11, Paddhari (dist Rajkot) 16, Wankaner (dist Morbi) 13, Jamnagar (dist Jamnagar) 12.

 

Monsoon advancement during the week

Northern Limit of Monsoon on 14 July

  1. On 12th July, monsoon advanced into more parts of East Rajasthan, Haryana and some part of Punjab.
  2. On 14th July, monsoon advanced into some more part of west Rajasthan.
  3. NLM (Northern Limit of Monsoon) passes through Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Nagaur, Sikar, Hissar, Patiala, Kapurthala and Latitude 31.5 deg. N Longitude 74.5 deg. E.

Forecast for next week

A low pressure area has formed over north west Bay of Bengal on 15th July. The movement of low pressure will decide the rainfall activity over Maharashtra.

Konkan – Goa:- Districts of Thane, Raigad and Mumbai city will receive moderate rainfall during 16th July to 19th July. The rainfall activity will increase as the low will enter in the land.  Districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg and Goa state will receive heavy rainfall during 21st and 22nd July.

Madhya Maharashtra:- Districts of Sangli, Satara, Solapur and Kolhapur will receive light to moderate rainfall during 16th to 22nd July 2017. Districts of Jalgaon, Ahmednagar will receive light rain during 16th to 19th July and rainfall activity increases from 20th July & on 22nd July it will receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

Marathwada:-  Districts of Aurangabad, Parbhani, Nanded, Osmanabad, Latur will receive light to moderate rain from 17th July onwards.

Vidarbha:- Districts of Vidarbha will receive moderate rainfall during  16th to 18th and moderate to heavy from 19th July.
