MONSOON UPDATES & WEEKLY REPORT ENDING 12TH AUGUST 2017

Realised Weather over Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat State. (06thAugust to 12th August)

During the last week

The rainfall activity was reduced due to shifting of monsoon to the northern parts. On 11th and 12th August, the axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level ran close to the foot hills of Himalayas.

The positions of monsoon trough last week. These positions were little below the trough position shown in the figure:

On 6th August, the axis of monsoon trough passed through Kapurthala, Karnal, Meerut, Bareilly,Daltongang, Digha and thence southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal.

On 7th August, it passed through Amritsar, Karnal, Meerut, Kanpur, Daltongang, Digha and thence south­southeastwards to westcentral Bay of Bengal.

On 8th August, it passed through Ferozpur, Delhi, Banda, Daltongang, Balasore and thence south­southeastwards to westcentral Bay of Bengal.

On 09th August, it passed through Ferozpur, Karnal, Fursatganj, Digha, Daltongang and thence southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal.

On 10th August , it passed through Amritsar, Karnal, Bareilly,Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, Goalpara and thence eastwards to east Assam and Another branch passes through Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Shantiniketan and thence southeastwards to north Bay of Bengal.

The Upper Air Cyclonic Circulations

The upper air cyclonic circulation formed over South Jharkhand on 06th August was very important circulation for North India though it was not fruit full for Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Peninsular India.

On 07th it moved to North Chhattisgarh and on 08th to North East MP. On 09th it moved to Northern part of MP and the on 10th it located on West Uttar Pradesh. Finally on 11th this circulation became less marked. Due to this circulation one more trough like developed from North Rajasthan to West Central Bay of Bengal on 08th August and became less marked on 11th when this circulation also diminished.

A North South trough also seen from Odisha to Tamilnadu across Andhra Pradesh from 10th to 12th August.

 

Rainfall Activity Over Maharashtra State

Because of frequent passing shower Konkan – Goa received rainfall at most places during the week. South Madhya Maharashtra experienced rainfall at few places where as North Madhya Maharashtra observed dry days or rain at isolated places during first half of the week and at few places in second half of the week. Marathwada experienced dry days or rain at isolated places during the week. Because of thunder storm Vidarbha experienced heavy rainfall on 09th and 10th otherwise very light to moderate rainfall at isolated places during the week. Gujarat was more or less dry or rain at isolated places during the week.

 

Forecast for next week ending on 19th August 2017

At present monsoon trough is at the foot hills of Himalaya. There is no improvement seen in near future. Cyclonic circulation formed in the southern part of the country may not help our region.

Konkan – Goa:- Districts of Konkan Goa will experience passing showers only full week. For north Konkan districtsw such as Thane, Raigad and Mumbai – light to moderate but for South konkan district such as Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg there will be moderate rainfall.

Madhya Maharashtra :- Districts of Madhya Maharashtra such as Nashik, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar etc will experience either partly cloudy or sunny days during the week.

Marathwada :-  Districts of Marathwada such as Aurangabad, Parbhani, Osmanabad, Nanded, Beed etc will observe moderate rainfall at few places on 15th and 16th August, rest of the days either partly cloudy skies or light rainfall at isolated places.

Gujarat region :- Districts of south Gujarat region will receive passing shower like districts of North Konkan. Districts of North Gujarat region will experience sunny days.

Saurashtra and Kutch :- Districts Saurashtra and Kutch has no scope of getting rainfall during the week. They will observe sunny days during the week.

West Vidarbha :- Districts of West Vidarbha like to observe light rainfall at isolated places on 15th 16th and 19th August rest of the days will be sunny.

East Vidarbha :- Districts of East Vidarbha will experience moderate rainfall with one or two heavy spells at many places from 15th to 17th and moderate rainfall at few places on 19th August. Rest of the days either partly cloudy skies or rain at isolated places.

 

Note on Monsoon watch

Monsoon trough is at the foot hills of Himalayas and may not move southwards in near future on 18th or 19th a system likely to form in Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast. This may revive the monsoon for next to next week till then central and peninsular India may get rainfall because of small and weak cyclonic circulation. North India and North West India will not get rainfall due to present situation.
