WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT ENDING 17TH NOVEMBER 2018

Realised weather during the week 11-11-2018 to 18-11-2018.

As mentioned in the last week’s weather report, a depression*  over Bay of Bengal  moved west-northwestwards and intensified into Cyclonic storm* on 11th November 2018. As per WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones, the tropical cyclone is called ‘Gaja’.  It then moved southwestwards towards Indian coast. It intensified into Severe Cyclonic Storm on 15th November and crossed the coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranniyam during early hours( 0000 to 0200 hrs IST) of 16th November. However due to tropography of the area, it had not weakened substantially as rear part of the eye of the cyclone was in the sea. It moved westwards over the land and weakened into depression at around 1130 hrs IST of 16th November 2018. It moved over Kerala and emerged over Southeast Arabian sea on 17th November.

The trail of cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ gave heavy rainfall at many places over Tamilnadu and Kerala on 17th November.

During the last week,  Rain and snowfall recorded at most places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh  on 14th and 15th November.

In  Maharashtra, night temperatures were below normal during the week. However, the day temperatures were not showing any significant reduction thus there is a large diurnal variation of temperatures.

 

Forecast for the week 18-11-2018 to 24-11-2018.

The depression over Southeast Arabian sea likely to move westwards and weakened gradually.

The low level circulation over Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian ocean likely to be develop as low pressure area.

A fresh western disturbances likely to be develop over Himalayan region.
