15th OCTOBER 2017 – MONSOON UPDATES & WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT

Monsoon watch

A low will be forming on 15th October over East Central Bay of Bengal. This low will be intensifying further. Due to this system again the withdrawal process over Maharashtra will be delayed.

Southwest monsoon has further withdrawn from remaining parts of Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan, some parts of East Uttar Pradesh and some more parts of North Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat region. The monsoon withdrawal line now passes through Latitude 28.5 degree N. Longitude 81 degree E. Kheri, Nowgong, Shajapur, Ahmedabad, Dwarka, Latitude 22 degree N, Longitude 65 degree E, Latitude 22 degree N, Longitude 60 degree E.

Favourable conditions are developing for further withdrawal of Southwest monsoon from remaining parts of northwest India, some  more parts of Central & West India and some parts of East India during next 48 hours.

Weather Conditions last week:

Systems, which affected our region, was mainly cyclonic circulation over Odisha on 08th October, it extended up to 3.6 km above mean sea level.

On 09th it moved to North Madhya Maharashtra with same height and persisted till 11th October with extension up to 3.6 km above mean sea level.

On 12th it moved to North East Arabian sea and again on 14th it shifted to North Konkan and adjoining South Gujarat region.

A trough also developed from cyclonic circulation of Odisha to North Interior Karnataka across Vidarbha,Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra and became less marked after two days.

Monsoon was vigorous over Vidarbha on 10th and active over Vidarbha on 08th and 09th , monsoon was also active over North Madhya Maharashtra on 10th October.

 

Rainfall Last Week:

In Maharashtra state, districts of Marathwada, Vidarbha, North Konkan and North Madhya Maharashtra received a good amount of rainfall. Where as South Konkan – Goa, South Madhya Maharashtra received comparatively less rainfall. Gujarat state was either dry or rainfall at one or two places.

Due to effect of anticyclone and cloud free zone, Kutch and North Gujarat region received intense sun radiation and day temperature rose. Day temperatures of these areas were appreciably above normal. Because of monsoon activity day temperatures of North Konkan, North Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha were below normal.

Pune Received Seasons highest rainfall in One Hour:

On 13th October 2017, Pune received 103 mm of rain one hour which is seasons highest rainfall. This is type of micro burst in which most of rain is poured over a small area in short duration of time. This is the result of convective clould which is explained below.

 

Intense Thunderstorm & Ligthning Activity:

Last week many places over Maharashtra experienced Intense Thunderstorm & Ligthning Activity with spells of heavy rain. Withdrawing monsoon from north bringing dry winds where as moist air from Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea bringing most air. Resulting of mixing of these winds is development of huge thunder clouds which extend upto 20 kms vertically. Read more about this situation last week.

 

Forecast for the week 15thOctober to 21stOctober

A low pressure is likely to develop over East Central Bay of Bengal on 15th. It may intensify further. Due to this Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra will get rain on 21st October.

North Konkan (Greater Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar):- North Konkan will observe moderate rain at many places on 15th , light rain at one or two places on 16th and there after sunny days till 21st October. Day temperatures will rise during the week. It is likely to be above normal.

South Konkan– Goa:- Districts of this south Konkan – Goa will observe moderate rain at many places on 15th to 17th and moderate to heavy rain at many places on 21st October. On 18th 19th and 20th there will be either sunny days or light rainfall at one or two places. Day temperatures will be normal.

North Madhya Maharashtra:- Light to moderate rainfall at few places on 15th and at isolated places on 16th there after sunny days for 4 days that is from 17th to 20th again on 21st October moderate rain at many places. Day temperature will be normal but above normal from 17th to 20th October.

South Madhya Maharashtra:- These districts will observe moderate to heavy rainfall at most places on 15th and moderate rain at many places on 16th . From 17th to 20th there will be sunny days or rain at one or two places. Again on 21st moderate to heavy rain at many places. Day temperature will be normal or below normal.

Marathwada:- Districts of Marathwada will experience moderate to heavy rain on 15th . From 16th to 19th sunny days .On 20th light to moderate rain at few places. On 21st there will be moderate to heavy rain at many places. Day temperatures will be above normal from 17th to 20th .

Vidarbha:- Light rain at one or two places on 15th and from 16th to 19th there will be sunny days. 20th and 21st again light rainfall at few places. Day temperatures will be above normal.

Gujarat state:- Gujarat state will experience sunny days full week.
