MONSOON UPDATES AND WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING 26TH AUGUST 2017

Realised weather over Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat State (20thAugust to 26th August)

The date wise positions of axis of monsoon trough  during the week is given below:

It is seen that the monsoon trough is shifted southwards from the normal position due to the low pressure area over central India which lies over East Vidarbha on 20th August. The low pressure has been intensified into well marked low on the same night and shifted to west Vidarbha. The low pressure system lies over Southwest Madhya Pradesh on 21st . It moved over Kutch on 22nd and became less marked.

On 24th, there was an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over coastal Odisha and neighbourhood which extends between 1.5 & 7.6 km above mean sea level. On 25th, it moved over Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood. On 26th , It lies over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood.

Both these weather system give good amount of rainfall over Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.

*Vigorous Monsoon :-

  1. Rainfall exceeding 4 times the normal
  2. Rainfall in at least two stations should be 5 cm in coastal stations and 3 cm elsewhere.
  3. Rainfall in that sub-division should be fairly widespread or widespread.

*Active monsoon

  1. Rainfall 1 ½ to 4 times the normal.
  2. The rainfall in at least two stations should be 5 cm, if that sub-division is along the west coast and 3 cm, if it is elsewhere.
  3. Rainfall in that sub-division should be fairly widespread to widespread.

Upper Air cyclonic circulation over North West Bay of Bengal and upper air cyclonic circulation of  Mizoram jointly will form a low pressure area over North West Bay of Bengal. adjoining Odisha coast.

Konkan – Goa :- Districts of North Konkan will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on 27th , 28th and 29th August and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places on 30th , 31st August , 01st & 02nd September. Districts of south Konkan and Goa will observe heavy to very heavy on 27th  ,28th  and 29th  August  and moderate rainfall at a few places on 30th  and 31st August  and light to moderate rainfall on 01st & 02nd September.

Madhya Maharashtra :- Districts of North Madhya Maharashtra will experience heavy rainfall on 27th , 28th and 29th  August and moderate rainfall at many places on 30th August and light rainfall at isolated places on 31st  August , 01st & 02nd September. Districts of South Madhya Maharashtra will experience moderate rainfall at a few places from 27th to 30th August and light rainfall at isolated places or weather will be dry from 31st August to 02nd September.

Marathwada :-  Districts of Marathwada will observe moderate to heavy rainfall from 27th to 29th August and light rainfall at isolated places on 30th August and weather will be dry afterwards.

Vidarbha :- Districts of West Vidarbha will experience moderate rainfall at a few places on 27th August and moderate to heavy at many places on 28th and heavy to very heavy on 29th August and light to moderate at isolated places from 30th August to 01st September and again rainfall activity will increase on 02nd September.

Gujarat region :-Districts of North Gujarat will observe moderate to heavy rainfall at many places on 27th and 28th August and moderate at a few places on 29th August and light rainfall at isolated places afterwards. Districts of south Gujarat will receive heavy to very heavy on 27th and 28th August and moderate to heavy at a few places on 29th August and light to moderate at isolated places afterwards.

Saurashtra and Kutch :- Districts Saurashtra will get light to moderate at a few places 27th August and moderate to heavy at many places on 28th August and heavy to very heavy on 29th August and light rainfall at isolated places afterwards. Districts of Kutch will receive light to moderate rainfall on 27th August and light rainfall afterwads.

Upper air cyclonic circulation over north east MP on 26th will moving up to Kutch as per model this will give heavy rainfall to Gujarat and northern part of Maharashtra. Upper air cyclonic circulation of North West Bay of Bengal off North Odisha coast and cyclonic circulation over eastern part of Mizoram both likely to form a low pressure area in near future and again it will give the rainfall to central India.
