Monsoon Update – 12th June 2026

The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced today, 12 June 2026, into the entire North-West Bay of Bengal, additional parts of the West-Central Bay of Bengal, West Bengal, more parts of Bihar, and parts of Odisha and Jharkhand.

Outlook for the Next 2–3 Days

Conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into:

  • More parts of the Central Arabian Sea,
  • Additional areas of Maharashtra,
  • Entire Karnataka,
  • Entire Telangana,
  • Entire Andhra Pradesh,
  • Entire West Bengal,
  • West-Central Bay of Bengal,
  • More parts of Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar,
  • Parts of Chhattisgarh.

Current Monsoon Situation

At present, the Arabian Sea branch of the Southwest Monsoon has weakened and is nearly in a stalled phase. The absence of a significant Low Pressure Area over the Arabian Sea and the lack of an active offshore trough along the west coast appear to be the primary reasons behind the slowdown in monsoon advancement.

In contrast, the Bay of Bengal branch remains strong and highly active. As a result, widespread monsoon rainfall continues across the Northeastern States, and the monsoon is steadily advancing westward into West Bengal and Bihar.

Unless a favourable weather system develops over the Arabian Sea, the progress of the monsoon along the western coast may remain relatively slow for the next few days.
