Biparjoy – First Cyclonic Storm of Arabian sea in 2023

India Meteorological Department, a principal government agency has declared that a depression [A cyclonic disturbance in which the maximum sustained surface wind speed is between 17 knots and 27 knots (31 and 50 kmph).] over Southeast Arabian sea and lay cantered at 0830 hrs IST on  6th  June, 2023 near latitude 11.5°N and longitude 66.0°E.

By 1130 hrs IST, it was declared as Deep Depression with sustained wind speed between 28 knots to 33 knots (51 kmph to 61 kmph) over same area.

Most of the weather models indicates that the deep depression will be intensified into very severe cyclonic storm within 6 hours and move northwards.

As per the WMO nomenclature, the cyclonic storm will be named as Biparjoy ( suggested by Bangladesh, meaning Disaster )
