The ECMWF model indicates that wind patterns over the Arabian Sea are becoming favourable for the advancement of the Southwest Monsoon. As a result, the monsoon is likely to reach Kerala about one week earlier than its normal onset date.
Heat Wave Alert
Severe heat wave conditions are expected to prevail over:
Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, North Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat throughout the week.
Northeast India
- Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh may experience thunderstorms with heavy rainfall at isolated places.
- Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.
Eastern India
West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Odisha will witness thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds during the week.
Southern Peninsula
- Kerala, Karnataka, and Interior Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive pre-monsoon showers.
- Hot and humid weather will prevail over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.
Coastal & Marine Conditions
The Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions are likely to experience squally winds during the week.
Northern Hill States
- Hill regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir may witness intermittent snowfall till 30th April.
- However, the plains of these states are expected to experience heat wave conditions.
