Realized weather during the last week from 18th May to 24th May:

Rainfall & Thunderstorms

During the last week Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal (Himalayan area as well as plain area) received good rainfall to extremely heavy rainfall due to Super cyclonic storm AMPHAN. Kerala, Karnataka (coastal and interior) observed good rainfall due to thunder activity. Thunder activity was observed by West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh also.

 

Cyclone Amphan

The low-pressure area intensified into Cyclone on 16th of May. It was due to warm sea area it intensified more and later hit land area of West Bengal between Digha and Hatiya causing great damage to West Bengal and northern districts of Odisha. Landfall occurred on 20th 1530 hours.

 

Heat Wave

During the last week, the central area western area and North West area of the country faced heatwave conditions.

The highest maximum temperature recorded by the stations

  • Khargone West MP 44.0 deg C on 18th
  • Akola Vidarbha 44.8 deg C on 19th
  • Khargone West MP 44.3 deg C on 20th
  • Khargone West MP 45.0 deg C on 21st
  • Vijaywada (Coastal MP) deg C 46.0 on 22nd
  • Pilani Rajasthan 46.7 deg C on 24th

In the second half of the week Vidarbha, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat experienced heatwave conditions.

 

Forecast for next week 25th to 31st May 2020: 

Rainfall

Coming week (25th – 31st May) North-East India will continue to receive heavy rainfall due to strong current from Bay of Bengal. In the coming week from the third day of the week South Interior Karnataka Kerala will also observe good rainfall and at some time heavy fall also.

 

Heat Wave

During the week heatwave conditions will prevail over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Telangana Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh,  Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka. On one or two days Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha will observe severe heatwave conditions.
